Data Collection

Data Collection is the most important part of a research where the correct data needs to be captured. We cover various methodologies – Online, Offline, CATI and Mobile.

Explore the advantages and disadvantages of each data collection methodology: Online, Offline, CATI, and Mobile.

Online data collection is convenient and cost-effective but may suffer from low response rates; offline methods offer high engagement but can be time-consuming and expensive; CATI ensures quality data through interviewer assistance but can be intrusive; mobile data collection provides real-time insights but may face privacy concerns.

  • Online Data Collection

Advantages: Cost-effective, wide reach, quick data gathering, easy to analyze with automated tools. Disadvantages: Potential for low response rates, limited to internet users, risk of data privacy issues.

  • Offline Data Collection

Advantages: Can reach populations without internet access, often perceived as more personal, allows for detailed feedback. Disadvantages: Time-consuming, higher costs due to logistics and manpower, data entry errors possible.

  • CATI (Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing)

Advantages: Allows for clarification of questions, can reach a diverse demographic, real-time data entry reduces errors. Disadvantages: Declining response rates due to call screening, potential for interviewer bias, costly compared to online methods.

  • Mobile Data Collection

Advantages: High accessibility, rapid data collection, can utilize multimedia inputs (photos, videos). Disadvantages: Limited by device capabilities and screen size, potential connectivity issues, privacy concerns with app permissions.
